Egypt has one of the largest populations in Africa and the Middle East with an estimated 79 million people. Egyptians are hospitable and friendly people, they welcome their visitors and go out of their way to help as much as they can. They never seem to be too troubled. Arabic is the official language the main other languages taught and spoken are English, French, German & Italian. Religion is very important in Egypt, it is a predominantly Muslim country with Islam as its state religion, and there is a large minority of Christians who make up 10% of the population.
Egypt is not without strife. They have had thirty years of authoritarian rule, an erratic economy and rising living costs.
The modern Government of Egypt is a Semi-presidential republic. The President is Hosni Mubarak and the Prime Minister is Ahmed Nazif. Egypt is an important political and cultural nation of the Middle East and is a Major Power in North Africa, Mediterranean Region, African continent, Nile Basin, Islamic World and the Red Sea. It has one of the most developed and diversified economies in the Middle East. And is still rapidly developing.
