Kenya versus Japan

main_imageJapan was taught a rugby lesson through a 56-0 mauling by tenacious Kenyan Captain Humphrey Khayange and his troops. Kenya, the defending Tusker Safari Sevens champions went into the game after registering impressive wins against South Africa’s Hamilton Raiders, and Tanzania. Kenya never looked threatened against the Japanese side, and the game was almost already out of reach for the Japanese by half-time,

with Kenya leading 29-0, courtesy of tries from Allan Onyango, who opened the floodgates with a try barely two minutes into the match, Innocent Simiyu and two tries apiece from Gibson Weru and captain Khayange. It was certainly going to be a bad day for the Asians as the second half saw Collins Injera, who had been kept anonymous in the first half turn on the style and do what he only knows how to do best, getting a whiff of the opponent’s try line. He opened Kenya’s account at the beginning of the second half, putting his country 34-0. Substitute Leon Adongo added to the Japanese’s misery by scoring soon after, before Injera and Simiyu again completed their braces and Khayange made sure of the points by completing his hat trick. Lavin Asego who had been missing conversions was called to job again, this time converting successfully to give Kenya a comfortable 56-0 win and a deserved slot in the quarterfinals.
